What to do in an emergency
If someone near you collapses, is unresponsive and is not breathing then do the following immediately
- Call 999 and ask for Ambulance
- State your location and calmly and clearly tell them the situation
- The Ambulance call handler will decide if a defibrillator is close enough to your location and where it is
- If someone is with you then send them to the defibrillator specified by the Ambulance Service *(See below)
- If you are able, then commence CPR. The Ambulance call handler will give you advice
- On arrival of the defibrillator turn on device and follow verbal and video instructions until arrival of Ambulance Service
- If no defibrillator is available, or there is no one to fetch it, continue CPR until arrival of Ambulance Service
* Collecting defibrillator
- Go to nearest location, or location specified by Ambulance Service taking a mobile phone with you
- At location use the 5 digit code provided by the Ambulance Service and remove the defibrillator pack or, if no code already given, call 999 and ask for Ambulance
- Give location code from front of cabinet
- Open cabinet using 5 digit code given to you
- Remove yellow defibrillator pack
- Return to patient
- Turn on device and follow verbal and video instructions
