What to do in an emergency

If someone near you collapses, is unresponsive and is not breathing then do the following immediately

  • Call 999 and ask for Ambulance
  • State your location and calmly and clearly tell them the situation
  • The Ambulance call handler will decide if a defibrillator is close enough to your location and where it is
  • If someone is with you then send them to the  defibrillator specified by the Ambulance Service *(See below)
  • If you are able, then commence CPR.  The Ambulance call handler will give you advice
  • On arrival of the defibrillator turn on device and follow verbal and video instructions until arrival of Ambulance Service
  • If no defibrillator is available, or there is no one to fetch it,  continue CPR until arrival of Ambulance Service

* Collecting defibrillator

  • Go to nearest location, or location specified by Ambulance Service taking a mobile phone with you
  • At location use the 5 digit code provided by the Ambulance Service and remove the defibrillator pack or, if no code already given, call 999 and ask for Ambulance
  • Give location code from front of cabinet
  • Open cabinet using 5 digit code given to you
  • Remove yellow defibrillator pack
  • Return to patient
  • Turn on device and follow verbal and video instructions
